March’s Hottest Basketball Cards on Earth

By · Comments Comments Off

Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Love, Derrick Rose, Playoff Contenders Patches, National Treasures highlight our look at the top 25 hottest basketball cards and Top 5 hottest basketball card products on the planet from the first days of March.

CarmeloAnthony KNICKSPic1 Hottest Basketball Cards on the Planet: MarchOne of the greatest catalysts for sparking or in most cases “re-sparking” interest in a player’s cards is a trade. Often times fans can become fatigued with their favorite team’s current roster, so when a trade happens for better or for worse, it at the very least gives collectors of that team a fresh face to chase. This is the case and then some with Carmelo Anthony, whose cards have seen an epic boost in interest since being traded to the largest sports market on Earth (New York).

NEAL GRIFF CONTENDERS Hottest Basketball Cards on the Planet: MarchIt may seem like a small thing, but 26-year old Spurs rookie Gary Neal made his first ever appearance on a basketball card in 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches, which released last week. The Spurs are the Patriots of the basketball card world, which means Spurs fans are always thirsty for another contributor to their favorite team’s dynasty.

Not sure what to make of this, but a friend who recently saw Blake Griffin take on the Timberwolves told me he was shocked to see the hottest player in the hobby taking plays off and ignoring Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro. My friend commented that Griffin reminded him of Randy Moss -  plays when he wants to play and is obsessed with making the highlight reel play. Since then, I’ve heard whispers about this very same issue, so apparently he wasn’t alone in noticing this.

Who knows, could end up being nothing, but it’s still disappointing to hear. Regardless, the dunk champ’s cards continue to be the hottest in the hobby. Even though Griffin’s rookie cards are from the 2009-10 basketball card season, his 2010-11 Contenders Patches Rookie of the Year Contenders Autographs have been heating things up on eBay.

Card Show Round Up

By · Comments Comments Off

It’s been a little while since we last posted and I thought I would share a few photos from the last card show. We were lucky enough to have a visit from former NHL’r Nathan Robinson. He took a few photos with some of the people and signed a few cards, just what we needed to make the card show that much more enjoyable.

The Past Holds the Key to Housing the Modern Hit

By · Comments Comments Off

Ultra Pro’s Vintage card sleeves offer collectors the ideal level of protection for the modern memorabilia card. The sleeves were designed for oversized vintage cards, but work perfectly for 90% of today’s hits and thicker stocked cards.

VintageSLEEVES Trading Card Tips: Memorabilia Card SleevesWhen it comes to the preservation of card condition, one of the greatest tool at a collector’s disposal is the everyday sleeve. The top loader and magnet case are crucial when it comes to long term storage, but when ripping a box or on the run, the penny sleeve is the simplest and cheapest way to immediately preserve card condition.

Ideally, the goal is to only sleeve a card once, as “over-sleeving” can lead to needless corner and edge fatigue. This means it’s important to have the right sleeve for the right card on hand when ripping a pack, box or case.

Sleeving regular sized cards (20-50 point thickness) is easy, it’s finding the ideal sleeve for the modern memorabilia card that often presents a mystery……. that is until now – Hands down the best sleeves for relic cards are Ultra-Pro’s Vintage Card Sleeves, which are over-sized, thick and provide premium protection for 90% of cards larger than a standard card.

What separates Ultra Pro’s Vintage Sleeves from the no-name brand sleeves geared toward housing hits is that Ultra Pro’s are thick and were created to keep the most delicate of over-sized vintage cards in tip top shape. In fact, they work so well that many times I don’t even feel the need to use an additional top loader.

Ultra Pro Vintage Sleeves usually cost around $1.00 for a 50-pack, which makes it an extremely useful and cost effective way to preserve every thick card in your collection.
